PARCEL 1: HISTORIC HOTEL

Parcel 1 is a commercial land use designation which allows for a combination of lodging, destination resorts, eating and drinking establishments, personal services, retail, as well as recreational, entertainment, and educational uses. This land use district is specifically created for Arrowhead Springs, in order to establish a ‘destination resort’ atmosphere.
The site occupies an existing facility that includes the historic 1939 hotel, which was a popular Hollywood celebrity destination through the 1940’-60’s. The property amenities included a spa within the hotel and steam caves, featuring geothermal-heated baths and pure spring waters. The hotel offered a luxurious ballroom and penthouse guest suites (Elizabeth Taylor honeymooned here). The parcel also includes ten historic bungalows used by Hollywood celebrities, such as Humphrey Bogart, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Susan Hayward, the Marx Brothers, to mention a few.

Plans call for a complete renovation of the 153,938 square foot historic hotel, highlighting its traditional 1950’s charm and décor. The hotel interior was designed by famous decorator, Dorothy Draper, whose work will be featured in a 2006 exhibition hosted by the New York Museum of Modern Art. In addition to the renovation of the 135 room hotel, new restaurants will be featured and a new annex facility will be constructed offering 115 modern-equipped guest rooms. In the current master plan, it is proposed that eight of the ten bungalows will be converted to executive suites with a 1950’s celebrity ‘identity’, such as the Lucille Ball or Humphrey Bogart ‘bungalow’. A new 25,000 square foot conference center will complement the hotel and guest suites.

The 25 acre parcel is situated with prominent views of the Inland Empire valley, the Village Walk shops and restaurants, the Botanical Gardens, as well as spectacular views up Strawberry Creek canyon. The hotel’s main access will be across a new bridge, which will provide excellent security and privacy to its guests and conference participants. The historic hotel has special access to the Arrowhead Springs Health Spa Resort and Ester Williams swimming pool facilities.
